Introduce yourself and your dog
Hi, my name is Jo and I have been a dog owner pretty much most of my adult life. My dog, Moose, is a two year old Welsh collie from working stock. Moose is my second collie, the first was not from a farm!
What problems were you experiencing with your dog that made you seek help?
What problems were you experiencing with your dog that made you seek help?
The main issue was Moose and lead walking. She would drag who ever walked her with every bit of strength she had. For a small dog, she’s strong! We bought various leads and harnesses but they made no difference. I had attended other training but it had no impact.

How did this problem impact you and your dog’s life?
Walking Moose wasn’t a nice experience. I suffer with lower back pain and it was getting worse. Moose would pull on the lead no matter what we did and she would end up panting and looking really uncomfortable.
How has working with Dan helped you and your dog?
How has working with Dan helped you and your dog?
I booked weekly one to one sessions with Dan which has kept me on track and motivated me to put in the time and effort that is required. Working with Dan has shown me the technique I need to help Moose to walk nicely on the lead. Not just that though, we’ve looked at the whole picture with Moose. She needed more structure, discipline and interaction than I was giving. She is now much more relaxed and generally better behaved. Moose had other issues too which Dan explained, for example, shadow chasing, and gave me guidance on how to tackle them. I think my relationship with Moose is stronger and better.
What is the best thing about working with Dan?
What is the best thing about working with Dan?
To be honest, there are lots of really great things. Dan is knowledgeable and supportive. He gives the theory about dog behaviours and practical advice too. He’s answered all of my questions (there have been many) and given me the belief that I can get Moose to walk nicely. There’s no quick fix and he has managed my expectations meaning I haven’t (and won’t) give up.

Got questions about dog training? You're not alone!

It’s never too early—or too late! Puppies can start learning basic skills as early as 8 weeks old. Adult dogs can also learn new behaviors with the right approach and consistency.

It depends on your dog’s age, temperament, history, and your goals. Some behaviors can improve in a few sessions, while others (like recall or reactivity) may require several weeks of consistent work.

At Dan’s Dogs, we focus on clear communication, structure, and rewards-based training that builds trust and results. Every dog is different, so we tailor our methods to suit your dog’s needs and learning style.

Yes. We work with dogs that struggle with fear, reactivity, or aggression. Through structured programs and calm, confident handling, we help reduce problem behaviors and build more control and trust.

1-to-1 sessions involve you and your dog working directly with a trainer—perfect for learning together. In a day train, you drop your dog off, and we do the training for you, then show you how to maintain the results at home.
